The Most Incredible Location For Your Engagement Photo Shoot!
If you want someplace to take your engagement photos that is gorgeous, unique, historic, outdoor/indoor, with a multitude of different choices, head out to the Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park. This place just screams “photo opp”!
At the Folsom Powerhouse, you’ll be standing in one of the most historically significant locations in the Sacramento area. One of the oldest hydroelectric facilities in the world, the 1895 brick building sits on a scenic bluff overlooking Lake Natoma. If you go between 12 pm and 4 pm, Wednesday through Sunday, you’ll be able to go inside to take photos by all the amazing looking old pipes and machinery. Outside, there are locations galore for great shots, from the old buildings to the dramatic natural surroundings.

WHO TO BRING WITH YOU
This is a self-serve sale. Please bring a friend with you to help you get in and out of the gowns. Please do NOT bring children (babies in strollers are okay). If you must shop alone, please make an appointment and we will do our best to have someone available to help you.
WHAT TO WEAR
If you already have your shoes, veil, headpiece, or undergarments, bring those to wear as you try on gowns. Any shoes that are the same height as you plan to wear will do. Please remove jewelry and lipstick before trying on gowns.
WHEN TO COME
As soon as possible! All items are one-of-a-kind, so once it’s gone, it’s gone! Regular sale hours with no appointment needed are Wed – Fri 11 – 4, Sat 10 – 4. After hours appointments are also available.

Capturing the “First Look”
An insightful look at the idea of catching “the first look” is in the Fall issue of Inside Weddings magazine. You might miss this helpful tidbit since it’s on one of the very last pages, but your trusty Wedding Librarian spotted it, and wanted to pass it on to you! We’re talking about the first time that your groom sees you on your wedding day… there’s many ways to make it memorable, and of course, traditions and superstitions to go along. Here’s the beginning of the article:
The First Look Before the Wedding
Should the groom see the bride before the ceremony on their wedding day, or will it mean bad luck? All superstition aside, many couples are forgoing the tradition of avoiding each other before the wedding and instead choosing to capture the moment on video and in photographs. Often called “The First Look” or “The First Glance” reveal, this alternative gives a couple time to connect emotionally before the whirlwind of their wedding day begins, and ensures ample photography time for fantastic images.
The Tradition
The idea that the groom should withhold from seeing the bride before the ceremony dates back to when arranged marriages were typical. This custom developed during a time when a groom often met his bride for the first time on their wedding day, and it was feared that if the groom didn’t like the physical appearance of his bride, he might not show up for the ceremony.
